In addition, using toothpastes that are abrasive or using whitening products too frequently can also cause the dentin to become exposed. By changing your oral hygiene habits and with the use of a desensitizing toothpaste or mouthrinse, you can often see an improvement in the symptoms.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, the sensitivity can be due to an underlying condition, like bruxism, which causes grinding and clenching of the teeth. Your dentist can provide you with a custom-fit mouthguard to help reduce the strain and pressure on the teeth.<\/p>\n

To help protect the enamel from further damage, it is best to avoid acidic foods and drinks while also stopping the use of tobacco.<\/p>\n

In some cases, the sensitivity can be due to a receding gum line, which can be caused from overbrushing or gum disease. If this is the cause, your dentist may recommend treatment to restore the gum tissue to cover the exposed roots of the teeth.<\/p>\n
